_________________, 2010. Interactive installation. Carpet. 12' x 23'
A 12' x 23' carpet was installed in the lobby of The Gateway, a student
residential hall located on the campus of Maryland
Institute College of Art in Baltimore.
There was enough pile to the carpet that allowed viewers to leave
their mark in it; these marks were just as easily erased as they
were made. The piece ended up being the softest (and hence most
approachable) object in the hard-edged modernist building. The
welcoming nature of the carpet seduced and encouraged passer-bys
to interact with the material.
Due to the heavy flow of traffic going through the lobby each day,
________________ became a constantly evolving platform of
expression for the residents and the wider MICA community.
The Meaning of Their Project Has Long Been Forgotten
