Salt Water, 2011.

Salt Water - Part I, 2011.
Installation. 2 x 2 x 4ft. Separatory funnel, glass, salt water.

Sea water was collected from Provincetown's beaches. Salt crystals were left behind as the dripped water evaporated from the glass plate.

Salt Water - Part II, 2011.
Installation. 2 x 2 x 4 ft. Separatory funnel, rock salt, fresh water.

The dripping fresh water eventually dissolved the salt rock.

Salt Water I and II were completed during my three-week residency at Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA. I wanted to continue exploring the clinical and meditative qualities touched upon in the Mourning Diary series, while creating work that is relevant to the seaside village. Salt, a mineral intimately linked to humanity and civilization and found in abundance in salt marshes along Cape Cod's shoreline, became the focus of this series.
